It was Democratic Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz, not President Trump, who sent out the Minnesota National Guard during the 2020 riots; Walz did so more than seven hours before Trump made a formal threat to send out the Guard himself. In 2020, the office of Walz informed CNN that the governor had called for the Guard’s activation on requests from Democratically-run cities, St. Paul and Minneapolis.
