Biden Replacement Ruled out by Top Democrats Amid Calls for Him to Quit 2024 Race

Following his disappointing performance in last week’s debate, Democratic leaders threw their support behind US President Joe Biden, even though the White House refuted a rumor that he was meeting with family to evaluate his candidacy. Despite a rumor from Americans and even a call to step aside from The New York Times editorial board, prominent Democrats, including former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, have voiced their full support for Biden to resign.

However, no major party figures have broken ranks to demand that Biden resign. Although she is US Vice President Kamala Harris’ running colleague, Biden cannot be automatically replaced at the head of the ticket by her. Nor can Biden order her to take his place if he decides to withdraw from the contest.

As we know that President Joe Biden is 81 year old, and so his age has become a hot topic in the public’s mind following his first presidential debate with former President Donald Trump on Thursday night. The subject of whether Biden may be replaced as the Democratic Party’s presidential contender will probably come up due to his linguistic blunders, feeble voice (the campaign said he was suffering from a cold), and rambling answers to Trump’s jokes and the moderators’ questions.

Every state has previously hosted its primary for president. Unless Biden informs them that he is withdrawing from the race, Democratic rules require the delegates he gained to continue supporting him at the party’s next national convention. The Democratic Party is in disarray about the performance of their nominee following the US presidential debate between incumbent President Donald J. Trump and President Joseph R. Biden Jr. Biden, 81, appeared to be too elderly to govern the nation or run for president, and the ninety-odd minutes only served to confirm that theory.

As the Democrats maintained for the 2024 election cycle, incumbent presidents have seldom faced formidable challenges from their party counterparts. But following Thursday, there are rumblings inside the party over a possible replacement before the August Democratic National Convention, which is set to take place in Chicago.

Democrats don’t have any other option

Since Biden is the Democratic Party’s nominee for president, there hasn’t really been a backup plan. For now, Biden has a major influence on the process. This late in the process, he would have to concede to a competitor who would attempt to force him into stepping down. Until now, Biden has not indicated that he wants to stand down, and no opponent has taken him on directly.

Indeed, a couple of his most likely successors, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris, spoke vehemently in his defense following the debate, acting as a surrogate to show their support while drawing a comparison between his clumsy performance on the Atlanta debate stage and theirs.

What if Joe Biden steps down?

Even though the White House denied a rumor that US President Joe Biden was meeting with family to assess his campaign, Democratic leaders put their support behind Biden after his poor performance in last week’s debate. Prominent Democrats, including former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, have shown their unwavering support for Biden’s resignation in the face of a strong backlash from everyday Americans and even an editorial board request to quit from The New York Times.

Over the last few months, Biden has won primary contests in US states and territories, accumulating approximately 4,000 Democratic delegates. Delegates are free to vote with their conscience, which means they are able to cast their votes for someone else even if they would typically vote for him. There may be rivalry among Democratic contenders for the nomination if Biden “releases” his delegates by resigning.

Who would replace Joe Biden?

There isn’t a clear front-runner, although a lot of people might enter the race. Vice President Harris would most likely be first on the list, but she has struggled personally since her rough election campaign and low polling results. Although the US Constitution requires the vice president to take over as president in the event of the president’s death or incapacity, it makes no recommendations on the inter-party procedure used to select a nominee.

Governors Newsom of California, Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, and JB Pritzker of Illinois have all been mentioned as potential replacements; however, they are also Biden backers and surrogates who are attempting to help him win the election right away.
